Description
The tradition of afternoon tea continues in Almonte, where the Waterford Tea Room serves up homemade cuisine that is sure to bring you back.
The Waterford Tea Room looks like a picturesque bungalow, with prominent windows and a friendly look. Inside, the tables are topped with smooth, glass surfaces and classy chandeliers hang from the tall ceilings. The formal setting is enhanced by real china and an opulent décor. The restaurant serves a variety of more than 40 teas, many of them herbal. The setting is cozy and charming, and the open kitchen enables diners to chat with the staff. The dining room seats about 50 but can accommodate up to 65 for private function. Bus tours are also welcome.
A light breakfast might be in order, but if it’s later in the day, the quiche items, shepherd's pie, homemade soups and hot specials like chicken pot pie might be tempting. Sandwiches include salmon, egg salad, cheese, as well as croissant sandwiches; and the chicken sandwiches are especially popular. Don’t forget their specialty, butterscotch pie. The Waterford Tea Room has become known as an excellent source for baking and catering services and they have a wide variety of linens and crafts for sale.
For a number of years, the Waterford Tea Room has participated in the Eat Smart Program, an initiative championed by the City of Ottawa Public Health and is part of Ontario's Healthy Restaurant Program. In Ottawa, being a member of the program means providing a variety of healthier food choices (on the menu and by request), as well as exceptional standards in food safety. The program is also supported by the Heart and Stroke Foundation, and the Canadian Cancer Society.
